Radbournes to the rescue!

When the BBC’s DIY SOS team came calling, as usual Radbournes were happy to help a worthy cause by donating materials.

Just 18 months ago, Chris Gibbons was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a debilitating condition that causes his muscles to weaken and limits his life expectancy. Among the most important things for parents Claire and Colin was that Chris would be able to go where he wanted in his own home, and not to be confined to a couple of downstairs rooms.

Chris already has to use a wheelchair, and to transform their house could have cost up to £200,000. Unfortunately, Claire and firefighter Colin were told the disabled facilities grant would not cover work to make their upstairs accessible.

Enter the DIY SOS Team, and in just nine days, with the help of hundreds of local tradesmen and the generosity of local businesses, they were able to make the house in Bartestree a home for the family of the seven-year-old. With 90 and 100 tradesmen on site every day, many working 12-hour days free of charge, the team completed a project that would ordinarily take up to four months.

Isuzu 12 tonner is loads better for Radbournes

With their new Isuzu ‘Forward’ 12-tonne tipper now in service, Hereford-based aggregates company Radbournes can carry up to 6.3 tonnes of payload (even with a crane) on this 4×2 rigid truck, easily outperforming a previously purchased competitors’ 12-tonner that it has replaced in the company’s 10-strong distribution fleet.

The Isuzu F120.240 chassis/cab is fitted with a Stag aluminium tipping body, which has an Atlas 58.2 crane mounted at the rear of the cab. The crane is capable of lifting up to 1095kgs of bagged aggregate at a reach of 5.4 metres.

According to Chris Radbourne, managing director at Radbournes; “If I were to single out the reasons for the increasing numbers of Isuzu trucks in our fleet it is simply that they easily outperform their competitors in terms of both fuel economy and overall running costs. Without a doubt the Isuzu trucks are the most efficient vehicles that we have ever operated in our fleet.”

Radbournes deliver aggregates, sand, gravel and stone, in both loose loads and bagged quantities, using a 10-strong distribution fleet, of which five are Isuzu 7.5 tonne rigids. Local Isuzu dealer Andy Powell Commercials in Hereford supplied the new Isuzu 12-tonner to Radbournes and it is expected to have a working life of approximately 5 years. It is the latest addition to the Radbourne fleet and the first Isuzu in their fleet at this higher weight range.

Testimonials

“The gravel has been delivered thank you. Just wanted to say how helpful your driver was too, it is tight coming along the lane but he didn’t mind and went the extra mile to get the gravel far enough into my field so me could get past it. He was really helpful. Thank you very much.”
